25!

I was born 25 years ago today :) and I am not getting any prettier ... hahaha. That's okay though because with age comes wisdom and with wisdom comes power and money ... that's all you need right?

Man it's 1:50am and I have work in about 5 hours. It feels good to crunch in some major debugging when working on an app. haven't done something like this in some time. I got most of the kinks out of the template design converting a strictly XHTML/CSS/JS document over to something that is readable and workable in the app I am working on was a good challenge but like I said I have worked out most of the kinks.

Now that I have the design in place it's time to do the major coding now. Also a good idea to create a design, then build a simple foundation for the design and then add the things that need to be added ... kinda like what 37signals does ... it's the same way I have been doing my stuff since high school. The users experience is always more important then the features of an app if you can make it visually pleasing and yet simple to use then people will enjoy what you have made.

Also once you build a simple foundation you typically are open to changing the design more easily since the code has changed since you did the design so moving around the code will be the same from the first day you did it.

Okay time for bed I have more work to do tomorrow on the app for work.

Not me! I am working all day today. :) Upgrading the blog (to 2.0.5 and maybe a new look?) and working on a company project which I might be releasing out as open source with a MIT license ... still thinking about which license to use if I do decide to release the app I am working on.

What's the app? Well it's a simple catalog really but with some advance features. I am intergrating mootools into it :D and using a framework which ill work on any server and nothing extra will have to be installed on the server.

I have been reaching a lot of frameworks out there right now and I believe I found one that is perfect for what I need and I believe a majority of the people out there as well.

I will write more about it later on but right now I need to get ready heading out to Costa Mesa visting my dad.

Fusion Powered? What the heck?!?!?!

I have installed Vmware Fusion on my iMac Intel here @ work and I am currently installing Ubuntu 6.10 and it's painfully slow and from the looks of it ... it has locked up at validating zlib1g (17%) ... great!

This is nothing like the VMware we are used to on Windows or Linux it has a different feel to it. It's a beta I know but I thought they would stick to the same interface that is being used on the other OSes.

All I can say is it is a work in progress and it needs a lot of work :) . Now to try to install Fedora Core 6 :D . Will report on that once I attempt it ;) . Wouldn't install Fedora Core 6, it didn't find a hard drive and Windows XP Professional it installed just fine but it again painfully slow.

VMWare you will be hearing from me :D keep up the work though please.

Talking to all of these developers that are in the "Web 2.0" community really confuses you ... because that all have their own definition of Web 2.0.

So what is Web 2.0?

Google defines Web 2.0 as: Web 2.0 is a term often applied to a perceived ongoing transition of the World Wide Web from a collection of websites to a full-fledged computing platform serving web applications to end users. Ultimately Web 2.0 services are expected to replace desktop computing applications for many purposes. (Which is a reference to Wikipedia's entry for Web 2.0)

Tim O'Reilly has a post here (What Is Web 2.0) on his whole idea of what is Web 2.0 ... now is this the true meaning of it?

WhatIs has this as a meaning for Web 2.0 Seriously I want to know what Web 2.0 is? There has to be one overall meaning for it. Web 2.0 is not what? Web 2.0 is what? Web 2.0 is confusing!

I got an email this morning asking me what applications I use to developer my sites. I thought instead of emailing the person back with the list I can email them with a link to a post with a list of all the software i use instead :) .

Text Editors: Which I will use to developer scripts or alter html.

Coding from Mac OS X:

• SubEthaEdit (Very nice applications when your developing something with a team and all users run on mac)


• TextMate (I use this one mainly just I like how it prints source code on paper!)


• HyperEdit (When editing strictly php it works lovely)


• TextEdit (When I am absolutely bored and want to get in trouble I use this :P )

Coding from Windows:

• PSPad Editor (This is all I need)


• Notepad (When I am delirious)

Coding from Linux:

• SciTE


• Gedit (when I am on my ubuntu box)

WYSIWYG: Sounds like some weird Dr. Seuss character nope just some visual html editor.

On The Mac:

• iWeb ( Just kidding :P )


• Dreamweaver 8


• NVU (When I feel like being dangerous!)


• CSSEdit (Awesome CSS Editor use it when I only need to do only CSS and nothing else)

Windows:

• Deamweaver 8

That's my list of stuff I use on all 3 os types I use. They are all great applications to use I mainly use my Mac box though to developer stuff and will turn to linux from time to time but I hardly use my windows box to be honest. If I can do everything on one system then why split the work among 3 OS's right? So I tend to just stick to one and that would be Mac OS X :) .

Yeah! I got my MiniCards from Moo.com! Well worth the price. Seeing my pictures in tiny format like that and having a personal msg on the back is awesome. I placed a penny next to the cards so you can see how mini they really are. The quality is great though.

Great job Moo.com!

Just a few of my favorites that I got printed ... I picked my favorites when I ordered from Moo.com said print and they shipped it to me. I plan on giving these out to family, close friends and in the end send them out to people who request them. So keep an eye on the blog for the announcement.

People hate moochers ... but hey It's good to be a bookmoocher.

I just joined up with BookMooch which is a great site and the idea behind it is even better.

What is so great about bookmooch? Well you might have some books lying around that you haven't read for so long that you will never read them again. Why let it just sit there and rot when you can get books you want for that book(s).

So you have books that you have read and will most likely never read again so they are collecting dust. This is where bookmooch comes in :) . You give a book to get a book. So the books that you don't want anymore post them on bookmooch and people who want them will request it. Once they request it you send it to them and you get a point for that.

With a point you can request a book. No money is traded with the site or the requester. You only pay for shipping the book out to the person and that's it.

I am sending my first book out this friday and already requested one book that I have been looking into getting.

Nice thing is if you post up 10 books they will give you a point. 1/10 of a point for each book. Make sure though that the books you post are the books you want to give out otherwise your going to be sending out a lot of reject emails. I had to do this because I didn't realize the second you put it up it puts it into the pool for people to request.
